Join our team

The ISE can currently consider candidates on an opportunistic basis, and while we are not actively seeking to fill any roles at the moment, that can also change.  So if you might be interested in joining us, please read on, and then get in touch.

Interested in reducing emissions and energy prices, and/or increasing energy security?  Good.  Interested in finding better, smarter ways to achieve these goals?  Willing to question everything – including your colleagues – and able to think outside the box?  Even better.  That’s what we need.

Types of roles

Full time, part time, project based, and also internships

Experience levels from student to, well, experienced

Skills and expertise

We value people the following skills and expertise (it is not necessary for one person to have them all!):

  • Financial analysis and modelling.  The ideal level of experience in this area would include focused professional training (as provided by, among others, investment banks and certain departments at big four and similar firms) and 2+ years of professional experience
  • Programming/coding, esp. with regards to using and processing data (e.g. python)
  • Energy sector experience
  • Potentially experience in other sectors, especially upstream energy and sectors that are large energy users, including transport and automotive
  • For certain roles, an education in a field involving math, statistics, and quantitative analysis
  • A good understanding of microeconomics is a plus
  • Writing and communication skills, possibly in PR
  • IT (mainly website management)
  • Online and social media communication
  • Language skills: English, major European languages, and Czech and Slovak.  Possibly Chinese, Japanese, Korean and/or other languages in the future.
  • Note that while we do a lot in the climate area, it is focused on how to reduce greenhouse gasses, not on their effect on the climate, nor on the climate’s effect on everything else.  So just as energy and economics expertise is probably not often needed for climate science, climate science experience is neither a plus nor a minus for us.

Types of people

At least for working on studies, we are looking for people who think with their head, not their heart, and are willing to challenge the views of both themselves and their colleagues.  We are not looking for people who think those with contrary views are bad people, nor who think the many of the world’s problems are caused by bad people (dictatorship, war, and repression excepted!).  A desire to make the world a better place is a plus.  A hatred of bad policy is an even bigger one.

Location:

We are based in Prague, one of Europe’s main energy hubs (home to two top-10 power companies and multiple up and comers).  Most roles, especially full time, need to be based here.  The most likely exceptions are roles that involve skills that are very hard to find, and or that are more relevant elsewhere (e.g. someone translating articles into Japanese or working on a Japan specific study could be based there).

Still interested?

Then get in touch!  Please send us an email (info@isenergy.org).  We would suggest that you briefly summarize how you think you can help us (whether with a particular kind of work, with expertise in a particular area, or on a particular project which you know we intend to do and/or you think we should do), and why you are the right person to do so.  Resumes/CVs are not needed at first.
